Event at Oban House, Beeston (UK), 10th March 2012 with Ganbare Japan

On Saturday 10th March, Thinking of Homeland Japan will be on display at a special event at Oban House in Beeston (Nottinghamshire, UK). The event takes place exactly one year after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster struck Japan. Local charity ‘Ganbare Japan’ will also participate in the event.

Photographs of the current state of the affected area of Japan by award-winning British photojournalist Robert Gilhooly will also be on exhibit.

There will be sushi, cakes, coffee and other drinks available, prepared by Ganbare Japan, and a raffle. There will also be a short talk by local resident Mayumi Akagi who will speak about her experience in Japan as part of All Hands Volunteers when she went there to help with the post-tsunami clean-up effort.

“Thinking of Homeland Japan” and “Ganbare Japan” are having a reception this Saturday 14th January from 7-9pm to celebrate the opening of an art exhibition at The Bean in Beeston, including prints by Japanese artists on the theme “Thinking of Homeland”, and a letter exchange project between British and Japanese schoolchildren. Photographs of the current state of the affected area of Japan by award-winning photojournalist Robert Gilhooly are also on display.

At 7:30pm, Mayumi Akagi will give a short talk about her experience in Japan as part of All Hands Volunteers when she went there in October to help with the clean-up effort.
